Who you read matters.

Have you ever heard Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's quote on the company you keep? He said, "Tell me who you spend time with and I will tell you who you are." Basically, this means that the people you surround yourself with can have a big impact on who you are as a person.

But what about as a writer? As we have discussed before, in order to be a writer, you have to be a reader. So in terms of reading, Goethe's quote suggests that the books you choose can reveal a lot about who you are and what you value. Your reading choices can also influence your writing style and the kinds of stories you want to tell. So, it's important to be intentional about what you read and the authors you admire.

To expand your horizons, try exploring different genres and authors. This can help you develop your writing skills and give you fresh ideas. Plus, reading books that are different from what you usually read can help you find your unique voice as a writer.

It's also important to connect with other writers and readers who share your interests. Attend book signings, join writing groups, and participate in online forums to find a supportive community that can help you improve your writing skills and give you inspiration.

Remember, the books you read and the people you surround yourself with can shape who you are as a person and as a writer. So, choose your reading material and your companions wisely. And keep in mind Goethe's quote as you pursue your writing journey.
