Use THIS Tool to Plot Your Novel

So, you're working on a novel idea, but you're feeling stuck on how to turn it into a cohesive and captivating story? Or perhaps you have an idea for the beginning of a story but don't know what steps to take to turn it into a full-length novel? As I have learned the craft a

nd my own storytelling and writing process, I have come to lean on starting with a beat sheet.

In case you're not familiar, a beat sheet is a breakdown of the major plot points in your story, with each "beat" representing a key moment or turning point in the narrative. By using a beat sheet for your novel idea, you can clarify the story structure, identify areas for development, and create a roadmap for your writing process.

Basically, a beat sheet helps you figure out what should happen in your story and when it should happen. This ensures that the story flows smoothly and keeps readers engaged from start to finish. You don't want to bore them with too many slow parts or overwhelm them with too much action all at once, right?

A beat sheet like the one above (Save the Cat! is an excellent story structure to emulate as you plot your novel) can also help you identify where you need to flesh out your characters or world-building to ensure that the key moments in your story have the necessary impact. And perhaps most importantly, a beat sheet can serve as a guide for you as you write, keeping you on track and focused on the overall story arc.

As you sit down to start plotting your novel and figuring out your story structure, a beat sheet can be a lifesaver. Give it a try and see how it works for you!
