Successful Authors Do This Regularly

I would do this.

I would become inspired to write a new story, whether from some external influence or from an idea popping into my head. I would be so excited about it, so I would sit down to start writing. Eventually though, that inspiration fades, and my story that I was so excited to write would become just another dejected, unfinished word document on my laptop.

The thing is, if you don't have a routine, this is what happens. Ernest Hemingway once said, "The best way to become a successful writer is to develop an undisciplined habit of writing every day and following through on it."

If you're serious about your writing goals, it's essential to establish a consistent writing routine. It can be challenging to find the motivation and discipline to write every day, but with dedication and practice, it can become a habit. Because let's be honest—if you only write when you feel inspired, you'll never finish your novel.

So how do we ensure that we stay motivated and create a writing routine? How do we make it habit?

  1. Set aside a specific time for writing every day. It doesn't matter if it's only 15 minutes. The key is to make it a daily habit.

  2. Create a designated writing space. Whether it's a home office, a corner of your living room, or a coffee shop, make sure it's a place where you can focus and be productive.

  3. Make writing a priority. Don't let other obligations or distractions get in the way of your writing time.

  4. Track your progress. Keep a log of how much you write each day. It can be motivating to see your progress over time.

  5. Use prompts or exercises to get your creative juices flowing. You can find prompts online or in writing books.

Remember, writing every day doesn't mean you have to produce a masterpiece every time. The goal is to develop a habit of writing consistently, even if it's just a few sentences or paragraphs. Over time, this will help you improve your writing skills and achieve your writing goals.
